The Sand King is King Sharaman of Persia transformed by the Sands of Time. He is the first boss encountered in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Strategy

When the Prince returns to the Reception Hall, he must fight several Red and Blue Sand Guards as well the Sand King.

The Sand King blocks all attacks from front and can be attacked only by vaulting. But in order for him to be vulnerable, you have to defeat all the Sand Creatures in the room. The player is advised to keep moving when fighting the Red and Blue Sand Guards, as they will capitalize on inaction and allow the Sand King to attack them.

The Sand King and deplete the Prince's life with three non-stop slashes that will knock the player down unless they can time their blocks properly. Farah can weaken nearby Sand Creatures, but will become an active target if the player remains too close. Stay away from Farah and only approach when she is at risk of dying.

When the Red and Sand Guards are killed, all the player is required to do is break the Sand King's guard. Using the Power of Delay will allow the player to bypass the Sand King's guard immediately. Vaulting over him in slow motion will prevent the Sand King from knocking the player back. Using this technique repeatedly will allow the Prince to break his guard and retrieve his sand. Another alternative is to simply perform a vaulting retrieve. However, be mindful of your Sand Tanks as Delay can only be used for a short time and consumes one power tank.
