The Prince of Persia Trilogy (also known as Prince of Persia Trilogy 3D) is a High-definition remaster of the PlayStation 2, (Gamecube, XBox and Microsoft Windows games, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The Prince of Persia Trilogy is the third title released in "Classics HD" collection since the announcement of God of War's HD remaster in 2009[1][2][3].
Background
The games were remastered in HD for the PlayStation 3 with 3D and PlayStation Network support on the PlayStation 3's supported Blu-ray Disc. An initial series collection was released in Europe in 2006[4] before the remastered collection released November 19, 2010. In North America, the trilogy was initially released exclusively to the PlayStation Network as individual titles with a retail price of $14.99 and tentative December release[5][6]. It was rumored and later confirmed that a Blu-ray release of the remastered trilogy would be released March 22, 2011[7][8]. However, the physical release was delayed until April 19, 2011.
Trivia
- The sound mix quality is worse being compared with the original Ps2 versions.
- The "Prince of Persia Trilogy" is the first HD title not published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
- The original 1989 Prince of Persia is nowhere to be found in the remastered Sands of Time.
- The cinematic in which the Prince turns into the "Sand Wraith" has been inexplicably censored (from the moment the Prince puts on the mask, until he falls to the ground, the brightness is overincreased).
- The Dark Prince's golden (and red, when the health bar depletes) markings are nowhere to be seen in The Two Thrones, except the cutscenes. The Dark Prince's eyes don't shine either, and part of the Prince's monologues about the growing corruption on his body can not be heard.
- In a similar fashion, the Prince's damaged arm doesn't increases its shine over time in The Two Thrones.
- When the final "battle" against the Dark Prince begins in the original Playstation 2 version, the Sun goes down with each strike against him, making the world darker and darker until the Prince falls into the Mind Realm. However, in the Playstation 3 version the Sun never dissapears until the Prince falls.
- The Two Thrones' bonus videos in the Playstation 2 includes a gag reel, some trailers of the trilogy and the cutscenes. However, in the Playstation 3 version, the trailers are nowhere to be found.
