"I have never seen such a large clockwork mechanism before, it is as if the entire tower is some tremendous machine. But for what purpose, I wonder?"
—The Prince[1]

The Mechanical Tower is a secondary building located within the Fortress of Time.

History

The Mechanical Tower was established next to the Fortress of Time, and was accessible to the left of the Central Hall of the fortress' entrance. The tower was constructed of two parts: The Mechanical Pit, and the Activation Room.

During his journey on the Island of Time, the Prince was told by Kaileena (who pretended to be a servant of the Empress of Time) that, in order to gain access to the Throne Room, he would have to activate the tower by himself.

The Prince maneuvered his way through the past and present state of the Mechanical Tower using Time Portals. While in the Mechanical Pit, the Prince encounters the Sand Wraith again. When he reached the heart of the activation room, he obtained three master gears he needed to complete the tower in order to activate it.

Once the Prince centered the three master gears, he rotated the switch and the gears began the process of activating the tower. Inside the Activation Room, the Prince encountered the Brute. He lured the Sand Creature to the center of the room and fought the creature to his advantage. During his battle with the Brute, the Prince fought a number of Spike Beasts, who were also attacked by the Brute, who threw them at the Prince in an effort to kill him.

The Brute's actions, however, only cleared several paths within the Mechanical Tower, including the passage to the fortress's library and the Mystic Caves. Once the Brute is killed, the Prince continued his journey through the tower.
