Biography[]

Career[]

Arterton's first professional role was as Liza in Stephen Poliakoff's Capturing Mary, which she landed on while she was still at drama school. Likewise, her on-stage debut came as Rosaline in the play Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost at the Globe Theatre, London in July 2007, a part she also won even before she graduated later that year. She made her big screen debut in the 2007 movie St Trinian's as Head Girl Kelly, a role which she was awarded instead of Sienna Miller, whom she was competing against.

In 2008, she had her big hollywood break in the James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, holding her own alongside Daniel Craig, a part for which she was chosen from around 1500 candidates. Arterton played the "Bond Girl" Strawberry Fields, in what was a considerably sized role as compared to her on screen acting experience at the time.

She also became the face of Avon's 'Bond Girl 007' fragrance which launched in October 2008. Having already started in a series of low-key adverts for the cosmetics company Avon, in May 2008 Arterton requested a role opposite model Kate Moss for the cosmetics company Rimmel, but was blocked due to the terms of her Avon contract.

In 2010, she made her West End debut in the UK premiere of The Little Dog Laughed. She was originally slated to star in a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights as Catherine Earnshaw, however, she later left the project for unknown reasons. She is starred in an adaptation of Burden of Desire.

Arterton was seen as the goddess Io in the 2010 film Clash of the Titans, and plays the role of princess Tamina in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Following this, she appeared as the title character in "Tamara Drewe", released on September 10, 2010 in the UK.
