Assan is the Sultan's younger brother, ruler of a distant land[3].
Biography[]
King Assan is said to be a heavy-handed ruler, there were vague and unpleasant rumors about him and his son Rugnor. Despite being brothers, Assan and Sultan were not getting along very well[4]. Dar El-Harin once made a very opinionated speech about Assan, and weeks later Dar El-Harin was assassinated[5].
Assan took part in the wedding of his brother's daughter to the newly appointed Prince without Rugnor, though he rarely smiled, and left the festivities before the wedding feast was even over[3].
Assan invited the Sultan and his family to his Assan's Palace for a vacation[4]. The Sultan accepted and brought along his son-in-law and daughter, hoping to improve both diplomatic and family relations. During the visit, Assan appeared to be relaxed and ready to reconcile with his older brother.
Eventually Assan invited the Sultan and Prince to a private event, whilst the Princess was not allowed to attend and sent to her bedchambers, however during the event, Assan suddenly had the Sultan's escorts killed by a disguised assassin, and the Prince thrown into the prison. Unknown to Assan, Prince escapes right after he is imprisoned[6].
It turns out that Assan and Sultan had a pact that the Princess would marry Assan's son Rugnor when she turned 21 years old. When the Prince returns to the palace, and demands to know where the Princess is, Assan attempts to kill the Prince by throwing a dagger at him, but the Sultan blocks the blow, and is mortally wounded, telling the prince that the pact between him and Assan is now void. Assan calls the guards and blames the sultan's death on the Prince[6].

Assan is never seen again after killing the Sultan.
